Finding the right kind of multivitamin for your needs may seem as easy as going to the supermarket or the nearest pharmacy and picking up any bottle of multivitamins you see and buying it. Most people do get their multivitamins this way and they sometimes find that they lack some of the nutrients that their body needs when they are engaged in certain daily activities. How does a woman find the right kind of multivitamins for herself and what can she do to determine which of the many different multivitamins in the market she should be using?

Finding the Right Balance

A lot of the multivitamins you see on shelves in health food stores, supermarkets, and pharmacies carry labels that have the dosages of the many vitamins and minerals that each capsule or caplet has. Since these many different multivitamins may have one or two substances that are not on others or have similar formulations but different dosages, you may need to know what the basic vitamins and minerals a good multivitamin should have in the first place. You should try to look for multivitamins that have these important vitamins and minerals in their formulation:

All the B-Vitamins and these include folic acid, biotin and vitamins B1 to B12.

Vitamins A, C , D3, E, and K

Beta-carotene

Minerals should include potassium, calcium, chromium, and magnesium

Trace minerals that should also be found in your multivitamins should include iron, zinc, selenium, copper, boron, iodine, molybdenum, manganese, vanadium, and silica. These trace minerals are essential to a woman’s health so finding these in your multivitamin is important.

Other vitamins and minerals that can also be good to have in your choice of multivitamin include inositol, choline, and para-aminobenzoic acid, all accessory B vitamins. Quercetin and rutin, which are bioflavonoids, are also good to have on your list of vitamins and minerals. Anti-oxidants like glutathione and mixed carotenes, methionine, and cysteine, which are lipotropic factors and vegetable extracts, are also good things to find on your multivitamin bottle’s label.

Why Take Multivitamins in the First Place?

Why indeed should a woman take multivitamins? Isn’t a balanced diet enough for one to enjoy good health? While a balanced diet and exercise can indeed give a woman the advantage of good health, there are times when no matter how careful we are with planning what we eat, we miss out on some nutrients that our body needs every day. This is why multivitamins are important to have. These multivitamins can fill in the gaps that your daily diet might leave you with. This is why it is important to choose the right kind of multivitamins for you. Since men and women have different nutritional needs, it is best if you find multivitamins that will meet the needs women have. These not only give you your daily dose of vitamins and minerals for optimum health, it also helps you survive the stress, pollution, chemical additives in food, and other unhealthy products that you encounter every day.
