Some people fall asleep very late in the night. Though they go to bed early, they do not sleep fast and have to spend more than half of the night turning and tossing in the bed. Even they may not be able to get asleep again after interruptions.
On the basis of the cause of occurrence, chronic insomnia is classified into primary insomnia and secondary insomnia. Primary insomnia is caused by personal ill-effects, whereas secondary insomnia is resulted as a side effect of any external disturbances such as medication, environmental reasons, and psychiatric conditions.
Causes of Insomnia include psychological problems and physiological conditions. The common psychological problems for insomnia are depression, stress, and anxiety, whereas physiological reasons vary from sleep-wake imbalance, circadian rhythm disorders, to a variety of medical situations.
Sleeping disorders occur from infancy through to old age with a significant rise in incidence in old age. Most people don’t consult a doctor about their problem or resort to sleeping pills or tranquilizers to help.
Sleep is one of the bodyТs most mysterious processes. The most significant characteristic of sleep which differentiates it from the waking state is the interruption of perception. A sleeping person does not see or hear. Additionally, sleep is marked by decreased movement of the skeletal muscles, slowed-down metabolism, and complex and active brain wave patterns.
Regardless of which definition fits you the best, millions of people agonize from it. Many are desperate for an insomnia cure. You can be affected for just a few nights or suffer for years. Long-term insomnia is not the norm though. Rather, many people might suffer insomnia intermittently, depending on the stress in their lives or a specific health state.
Intermittent insomnia is also a short-term phenomenon. The difference between intermittent and transient insomnia is that intermittent insomnia lingers and recurs.
Diet high in stimulants. Caffeine is the main culprit. Drinking too much coffee, tea, colas and eating too much chocolate, especially in the evening, can cause problems sleeping. Alcohol is also not recommended – a nightcap may induce sleepiness at first, but prevents you from going into deep sleep, or the REM state, and thus, lets you sleep less soundly.
Three types of insomnia first is transient insomnia second is acute insomnia and last is chronic insomnia. It is not defined by the number of hours you sleep every night. Poor sleep quality can occur as a result of sleep apnea or major depression. Transient insomnia lasts from one night to a few weeks. Most people occasionally suffer from transient insomnia due to such causes as jet lag or short-term anxiety.
The usual type is secondary insomnia. The disturbed sleep in secondary insomnia is caused by another condition, disease, etc. Some of the problems that can lead to secondary insomnia are pain, schedule changes, changes to a person’s environment and depression. Also, secondary insomnia can be caused by the use of diuretics. Diuretic medications, of course, can be a problem, but coffee and alcohol are also diuretics to be avoided by insomniacs.
