Before you can actually start doing everything possible to bring your website to the top of search results you need to identify the keywords you want to rank high for. Pick the wrong keywords and even the top search engine rankings won’t bring you convertible traffic. Choose the right ones, invest into optimizing for them and your traffic and sales will go through the roof.

SEO is all about keywords, so it only makes sense that keyword research tools should be at the top of your wish list for SEO software. These tools dig through history and find out what keywords and phrases have been most beneficial to others in your same niche. You can then use the same or similar words to tweak your site for maximum traffic. Once you make any changes to your site, the keyword tools will review any fluctuations in traffic and help you make the right choices on content. Most SEO software programs have similar tools, they just use different names to make them seem unique.

Use multi-word phrases

In spite of using more generic words try to use synonyms or “long tail” keywords. Research has shown that multi word phrases are capable of bringing more traffic to your site rather than highly competitive main keyword phrases. The first step will be to use the Google Keyword Tool to analyze the Client website and competitive websites to come up with popular keyword categories. This list of keywords will show the term, the average monthly search volume, last months available search volume, and the Adwords competition level indicator. The competition level indicator shows the amount of PPC competition for a particular keyword.

The right keywords are the fastest path to the relevant information you are after. Do you have relevant content for prospects that are in the early research stages? This is because search engines match each query with the most relevant page and not the site. Experiments with LSI content will prove that lots of targeted content with the correct keyword densities improve rank dramatically. The more relevant the keyword phrase the more relevant your traffic is.
